Abstract: |
The popularity of multimedia streaming services via wireless home networks faces strong challenges in improvement in quality of service for streaming multimedia through well-designed STB. Even though scalable methods are suggested for increasing the quality of streaming services, it is still challenging work how to use scalable streaming service at home networks. Previous works on the scalable streaming services dropped the corrupted stream at multimedia client. In this paper, we propose a new method, ActiveSTB, to drop the distorted or unsuitable multimedia data early under limited resource. We use a network simulation tool, NS-2, to evaluate our new method with various range of cross traffic and error rate. Our simulation results show that ActiveSTB supports 12.5% to 40% more packets more than the original STB for all ranges of cross traffic and error rate. |
